For those of you who still follow this blog, you may have noticed that I am no longer on Facebook (Yay!). That does not mean that I am ignoring the company and website. It appears that one of their initial investors, Eduardo Saverin, has filed to leave his U.S. citizenship behind. The federal government happened to process this filing - and make it public - right before Facebook became a publicly-traded company. Great fodder for a series of news stories.
My take of the exchange is that it went something like this:
Saverin: Maybe the United States is not the best country in the world.
Democrats: Thief!
Incidentally, the Heritage Foundation currently lists the United States at #10 on their Economic Freedom Index. Singapore and Hong Kong (where Saverin lives and works) are ranked much higher. I like the United States but sometimes you have to be realistic.
